Earlier this week in my column about a moving company, I said I had never heard any HAPPY moving stories. Here is one from reader Robert Kemp:
Upon retiring in 1988, decided to move to Northern Ireland. from where I met my wife in 1943 during WW 2.
We flew over, found a builder, contracted for new home and returned hometo Maryland.
There upon contacted a mover ? United Van Lines-reached a price and proceeded to move overseas. They moved 3 floors of every item we owned. I was contacted when household items arrived in N.I., they then delivered same without a hitch and nothing was lost or damaged after we arrived. (Maersk Shipping Line was the Irish mover.)
Decided to return to U.S. due to weak dollar. Flew to Florida and found builder and moved back without any problem.
Think about these procedures happening twice. Mover packs & removes entire belongings, unloads, places in warehouse, negotiates with overseas shipper and reloads same, delivers same.
When delivery is received in N.I., unloaded, placed in warehouse until such time receiver is ready for same and then loaded on transport to owner and reverse is true upon returning to U.S.
Believe this or not, we hadn?t one complaint ! Not even one hitch !
You mentioned you had not heard of any happy moving stories. We went from one continent to another, 3,500 miles apart and thenback again and never a complaint !
